Moon this morning

Posted by jzholloway on January 30, 2008

Moon

Its not great, but here she is.. Luna… or Selena (my fav. name!) or the Moon… Shot this morning roughly at 6:45am, with a Canon EOS Rebel 350D, 32mm eyepiece (focusing blows), no filters, 800 ISO (should have done 100 or 200 – but I forgot), exposure about 1/250.  She’s pretty, but a little rough around the edges, my fault, I can’t seem to focus properly (any help will be most appreciated!). Enjoy.

Sol (aka the Sun)

Posted by jzholloway on January 27, 2008

The Sun

Here is the sun, taken today with my Canon EOS 350D. This is the first decent picture I have taken with the new camera. There are no sun spots, but hopefully that will change soon. Hopefully I’ll be able to figure out all of the right settings for tonight – another clear night in Athens, GA!

Photos so far…

Seven Sisters  Seven Sisters  Orion’s Nebula (Orion A)

Here is what I have so far… although not great, but I think my scope is finally getting to temp. The two on the left are the Seven Sisters Nebula cluster (although I don’t think I got all seven – Andrew help me out!) the one on the left is Orion’s Nebula – or Orion A (sorry it didn’t put that last time) – it is part of Orion’s Sword, right in the middle (the middle of the three). I’m bout to head back out soon… the Moon is’t up yet, and I may attempt Saturn… never done that before, but Dr. Schmude (old Astronomy prof.) said I should!

Posted by jzholloway on January 24, 2008

Well… its finally clear :) So I should be heading out tonight. I’m going to be experimenting a little, so I don’t know what exactly I will get. Plus, I’m going to try and stay out as long as possible… its going to be cold tonight though – down in the 20’s, so pray I can get my coffee make to work!!!

Here is the Sun, not a great pic, but just wanted to take it. No sunspots, etc. Here is the Moon taken this morning (Jan 23, 2008) at around 7am EST. The Moon was taken with my Canon EOS 350D with no telescope. Both pictures taken today from Athens, GA.

Update

Posted by jzholloway on January 22, 2008

Okay, so, well, the Weather Channel was wrong again. It got way to cloudy too fast, but according to the before mentioned weather prophets, its supposed to be clear by tomorrow afternoon… pray! (although we do need to rain – I am just being selfish)
